Ancient temples swallowed by jungle, and a town grown up around showing them off. Hot, humid, and worth every early start to beat the crowds to Angkor.
Dolomites
Pale limestone peaks in the north east of Italy, walkable in summer and skiable in winter. Busy in the middle of the day, quiet at either end.
Finland
Forests, frozen lakes and a silence the Alps forgot how to do. Short days, long nights, and better value snow than Chamonix will ever give you.
Germany
Germany, from Christmas markets and Cold War history to racetracks and the Alps.
Italy
A country that treats food, art and driving fast as birthrights. Beautiful, chaotic, and best approached with a loose plan and a large appetite.
Japan
Neon and shrines, bullet trains and total quiet, often on the same afternoon. Endlessly polite, gloriously strange, and worth the long flight.
Lake District
Fells, tarns and long light in the north west of England. Wet more often than not, and worth it anyway.
Netherlands
The Netherlands, land of canals, bikes and flat horizons. Our base for cycling into Amsterdam.
Norway
Fjords, fells and a coastline that goes on forever. Expensive, spectacular, and the snow holds long after the Alps have given up.
Portugal
Atlantic light, tiled facades and hills that punish the unfit. Cheap, walkable, and one of the few capitals that genuinely lives up to the hype.
Singapore
A city-state run like clockwork, all hawker stalls, skyscrapers and improbable greenery. Hot, spotless, and the easiest first step into Asia there is.
Switzerland
Switzerland, all car free mountain towns, via ferratas and the odd shy Matterhorn.
Vietnam
Vietnam, from metropolitan Da Nang and lantern lit Hoi An to Hanoi, the karsts of Tam Coc and the beaches of Phu Quoc.
